Embroidery
- Embroidery is a technique that involves stitching your artwork onto apparel and accessories.
- Traditionally, embroidery was very expensive and labor-intensive. However, with the arrival of computers and robotics, a large portion of the labor has been eliminated.
- Embroidery is good for:
- items that you want to have a higher-end appeal (such as caps, jackets, and tote bags)
- customization (personal names or slogans)
- hard-to-print items (such as jackets)
- Before your artwork can be embroidered, the stitch pattern needs to be programmed (using a computer). This programming is known as “digitizing”. Once the artwork is digitized and turned into a pattern of stitches, it can then be sewn by the embroidery equipment.
- Digitizing costs typically run from $50 to $150 (depending on the amount of detail in your artwork). The digitization cost is a one-time cost, repeat orders using the same artwork will
not incur a digitization fee.
- Artwork must be provided in a jpeg file (“.jpg” extension).
- The cost of each piece of embroidery is determined by the following factors:
- number of stitches
- number of colors
- number of pieces embroidered --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Typically, items are separated into “flats” or “caps”. Flats are anything that can be flattened and placed under the embroidery machine. Caps are baseball caps or hats. Patterns are usually digitized for one or the other--------------------------
- Production range: 6 to over 1,000
